7 Quick Takes, Take 5

I’m really a morning person. No, really. Even though I occasionally stay up until two or three o’clock at night despite having an official bedtime of 10:30 or 11:00, and despite my tendency to suddenly get interested in working on a project around ten and totally disregard that deadline, and overlooking the fact that I haven’t woken up before seven in the morning since, oh, May of last year. Yes. I’m definitely a morning person.

You know how you’re driving cautiously down a narrow, winding highway covered with slippery snow and slush, trying to see through the rain and mist and spray, and a huge eighteen-wheeler passes you on the left and kicks up such a huge amount of slush and spray and dirt that you’re suddenly left completely blind until it passes you and you have to try to remember just where the road is and pray that you don’t crash into something before you’re able to clear your windshield? Not much fun, is it?

That being said, Wednesday’s national day of winter has left me more convinced than ever that Ithaca is protected by a semipermeable Snow Exclusion Bubble. Oh, sure, we got a few inches, but nothing like what was being predicted. I’m not going to moan too much at this point, though, because (a) I’m largely resigned to this state of affairs by now, and (b) it has been more wintery than usual this season, sluggish snowfalls aside. Gradewise, this winter is hovering between a B minus and a B so far. There’s still time to pull that up to an A, though! (Hint, hint.)

I don’t do any podcasting of my own, but I do the technical production of someone else’s (extremely low-key and low-tech) podcast. I’m also involved in an ongoing project that I think would make for a fantastic podcast. Unfortunately, the project’s leader wants to keep the contents within the group for the time being. Mildly frustrating, as it seems like a lost opportunity.

I’m a LibraryThing user. I’m also a Twitter user. LibraryThing is now a Twitter user too. Cool! However, I can’t imagine using the Twitter feature in the way that LT proposes. That’s basically a matter of how I keep my library. All the books I have listed in LT are books that I actually own. I’d consider it cheating (for me, not everyone, I hasten to add) if I were to start adding books that I’ve only read but don’t own, or things that I think would be interesting to read someday. On the other hand, the planned future functionality, for tweeting to alert your followers of new reviews and such, could be quite nifty.

Cats, of course. Dogs just aren’t the same. ;-)

The Conversion of St. Paul was celebrated several days ago, but it’s still a great opportunity to say some special prayers for Professor P. Z. Meyers and those who have been inspired by his actions.
