More and more I know I know less and less.

7 Quick Takes, Take 6

Nice graphical link to Conversion Diary that I can’t get working for some reason.

I tend to read multiple books in parallel (which is sometimes a euphemism for “starting one book and abandoning it halfway through when I decide to pick up something else, nevermore returning to its pages”, but I try to finish everything I start unless it’s pretty bad). Books I’m currently reading include:

  1. The Birth of the Messiah by Raymond Brown. My Advent reading from 2007, still unfinished (but nearly!)
  2. Jesus of Nazareth by Pope Benedict XVI. Excellent, excellent.
  3. 50 Great Ghost Stories. A misleading title if ever there was one. Might not get to the end of this.
  4. Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X by Aaron Hillegass.
  5. The Way to the Dwelling of Light by Guy Consolmagno, S.J.
  6. Desire of the Everlasting Hills by Thomas Cahill

I have a weird love of classifying, categorizing, and sorting things. Entering metadata for a big batch of records is actually fun for me. (There’s probably a name for this.) That’s why I have all my books carefully cataloged and annotated in not one, but two, computer-based systems. That’s why I’ll probably spend hours happily entering place and face information for the several thousand photos I have in Apple’s new iPhoto ‘09. And that’s why I really do plan to scan in and organize all the thousands of print photos I still have sitting in boxes. Someday, someday.

I’m going to spend the upcoming weekend acting as a chauffeur for an expedition of Indonesian students attending a conference. Is that how I pictured my life a year ago? Not even close!

Music I’m listening to as I type this line: “Madame de Pompadour” from the Doctor Who Series 1 & 2 soundtrack CD. Murray Gold rules.

This is a perplexing and bizarre phenomemon in my life: I have never been able to find a pair of khaki pants that meets my rather minimal expectations for daily legwear. Frankly, I don’t understand it; everyone has khaki pants. But the source of all these simple, magnificent slacks has always eluded me.

A friend just surprised me with an unexpected thank-you gift. And it’s quite tasty!

The ice shelf that has formed on Cayuga Lake over the past month extends much further out into the water than it has for several years. It’s a bit of a shame to think that the weather is going to warm up and undo some of that nice work over the next few days!
